Antonio Gómez, Aldasoro, and Ignacio Torrescusa will attend UNEATLANTICO to give the first talk on “Sport and Health: Voices that Inspire”

“Sport and Health: Voices that Inspire” (Deporte y salud: voces que inspiran) is a series of educational talks co-organized by the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), the Real Racing Club Foundation (Fundación Real Racing Club), and the Royal Cantabrian Football Federation (Real Federación Cántabra de Fútbol). It will consist of four sessions held between February and May, one Monday of each month, at the University’s auditorium.

This cycle will start next Monday, February 19 at 19:00 pm in the auditorium of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico. Antonio Gómez, physical trainer of the Spanish national soccer team, will be the keynote speaker and will be accompanied by Aritz Aldasoro, player of Real Racing Club, and by Ignacio Torrescusa, physical trainer of the Spanish handball team and of the Torrelavega Handball Club. The lecture series is free of charge and open to the general public without prior registration.

Under the title “Training planning in team sports”, these prestigious professionals in the field will share their experiences and knowledge, mainly through practical cases they have developed in their careers, both in clubs and in national teams, thus training in the planning of training in team sports. In addition, Antonio Gómez will focus his presentation on a structured microcycle as a contemporary model of planning in soccer.

The initial presentation will last 40 minutes and will be followed by a round table discussion with the participation of professional soccer player Aritz Aldasoro and physical trainer Ignacio Torrescusa, a reference in another collective sport such as handball. To conclude, the microphone will be opened for all attendees to exchange ideas with the speakers.

With health and sport as a common nexus, this initiative has the main purpose of transmitting knowledge about some of today’s hot topics. In addition, the cycle of talks has a clear practical tone, as all sessions are composed of micro-lectures and round tables oriented to practical cases of different professionals and where, of course, attendees have a clear role at the end of the talks.

The speakers are Antonio José Gómez Díaz, PhD in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and Master in High Performance and Team Sports, has worked in important clubs such as FC Barcelona and in Spanish national teams as currently in the Spanish one; Aritz Aldasoro, graduated in BAM + Computer Engineering and professional soccer player of the Real Racing Club; and Ignacio Torrescusa, who has a degree in Sports Science at the INEF of the UPM, and is currently physical trainer of the Spanish handball team and also of Torrelavega Handball Club. 

In addition to the first conference, focused on physical preparation in team sports, there will also be training on mental health in sports, sports counseling, coaching, and injury prevention, among many other topics.
