UNEATLANTICO welcomes Professor Sebastián Rivera to promote international collaboration in neuroscience

The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) welcomed Professor Sebastián Rivera, a representative of the Centre for Research into Cognitive and Language Development (CIDCL) at the University of Valparaíso and a lecturer at the School of Speech and Language Therapy at Santo Tomás University in Viña del Mar (Chile), with the aim of strengthening academic and scientific ties between the two institutions.

During the meeting, both institutions made progress towards drawing up a collaboration agreement that will enable them to develop joint initiatives in the fields of neuroscience and experimental psychology. It was also proposed that a short course be organised on the technique of Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), an innovative methodology increasingly used in neuroscientific research to study brain activity.

Professor Rivera’s visit forms part of UNEATLANTICO’s commitment to internationalisation and the promotion of specialised training programmes in the fields of neuropsychology and neuroscience. In this regard, it is worth noting that the university will host the second edition of the Workshop on Neurosciences: Experimental Methods and Applications in Neuropsychology from 13 to 17 July 2026, which will take place in person at the Santander campus.

Upcoming events in psychology

The workshop is aimed at professionals in the fields of psychology and education and aims to provide up-to-date knowledge and practical tools for use in neuropsychological assessment and intervention processes. The programme will cover advanced methodologies for the study of mental and neurodevelopmental disorders through the analysis of real-life case studies and practical experiences, as well as offering an introduction to the main experimental methods used in neuroscience and neuropsychology.

The sessions will be led by renowned national and international academics and researchers and will be conducted in both Spanish and Portuguese. Furthermore, participants from other countries will be able to stay at the UNEATLANTICO University Hall of Residence.

Dr Ángel Rojas, workshop coordinator and lecturer at UNEATLANTICO, emphasises that ‘this intensive face-to-face programme has been designed to provide students with the essential tools needed to tackle the ongoing technological and scientific advances that are transforming professional practice in psychology and education’. Furthermore, successful completion of the programme will enable participants to obtain the title of Expert from the European University of the Atlantic.
