Fabio Iannuccelli, a student from Italy who participated in an Erasmus exchange this semester at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), recently received a certificate recognizing him as the winner of one of the two Special Awards presented by the university at the PHotoFUNIBER’26 International Photography Contest.
The student received an award for the picture “Innocent Peace.” The student took the photograph in Rome during a demonstration against the war and genocide in Palestine: “The photo shows a boy who, with his little hand and a very serious expression, is holding up a sign on which the Italian word “pace” (peace) is written and a small boat in the colors of the Palestinian flag is drawn.”
The student learned about the contest from his teacher, Dr. Helena Garay, director of the Audiovisual Communication degree programs (CA), Advertising and Public Relations (PRP) and Journalism (PER) and expressed her gratitude for the availability and professionalism of all the faculty members during her academic stay at the university.
Now in its eighth edition, PHotoFUNIBER’26 focused on the theme of “social impact,” inviting participants to use photography to highlight stories related to solidarity, coexistence, community care, inclusion, sustainability, and the positive transformation of environments. From this perspective, the contest established itself as a space for visual expression in which images become a tool for telling stories about human realities, raising awareness, and fostering a critical and constructive view of society.
This initiative is sponsored by the Cultural Work of the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) and the university. The contest aims to promote creativity, artistic sensibility, and reflection on socially relevant issues through photography.
The PHotoFUNIBER’26 International Photography Contest is also supported by the Universidad Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (Iberoamerican International University of México, UNINI México), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (Iberomerican International University, UNIB), the Fundación Universitaria Internacional de Colombia (International University Foundation of Colombia, UNINCOL), and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana, UNIROMANA).
