The university community of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) reaffirms its commitment to solidarity with the campaign “Donate blood, share life”, promoted by the Bank of Blood and Tissues of Cantabria of the Foundation Marqués de Valdecilla, in collaboration with the Association-Brotherhood of Blood Donors of Cantabria.
Through the Office of Cooperation and Social Action (OCAS), UNEATLANTICO hosted a new donation day in which students, teachers and administrative staff participated, actively contributing to the supply of blood and blood products necessary for health centres in Cantabria.
In addition to blood donation, the campaign also promoted plasma donation and registration of new bone marrow donors. This edition was attended by five plasma donors and a new bone marrow donor registry was formalized, thus strengthening the support network for patients requiring specialized treatments.
The initiative also had an important awareness component, aimed at raising awareness about the need to donate regularly to ensure stable reserves. During the day, volunteers were able to learn first-hand about the donation process and resolve doubts on how to collaborate in future solidarity campaigns.
From the OCAS they highlighted the high involvement of the entire university community and stressed that this type of actions reflect the values of social responsibility and commitment to collective well-being promoted by UNEATLANTICO. They also recalled that a single donation can save up to three lives, encouraging citizens to continue participating in this type of solidarity initiatives.
