“Mujer tenía que ser”

This program, developed throughout the month of March, was initiated in 2019 with the purpose of opening UNEATLANTICO’s exhibition hall to an artist from Cantabria or whose artistic work takes place in Cantabria. In this line, the exhibition “Siempre mujer” (Always a woman) by Mercedes R. Elvira, which included a group of thirty paintings and twenty-six sculptures based on the representation of women, inaugurated the “Mujer tenía que ser” initiative.

In 2020, it was the turn of the exhibition entitled “En territorio amigo” (In friendly territory) by Gloria Pereda, which was composed of a total of ten pieces that showed the daily life and intimacy of the painter and are part of the artist’s personal collection.

After the pandemic, the initiative was resumed with the exhibit “Lo que mueve el agua” (What the water moves) by Almudena González Cantera, known artistically as Canteruca, and whose work is a set of pieces worked around the sea combining different materials to represent the northern coast.
