The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER) and the Women for Africa Foundation have consolidated a line of collaboration aimed at expanding opportunities for access to higher education for African women, from a shared vision on the transformative role of advanced education, academic cooperation and female leadership in African development processes.
This collaboration arises from the convergence of objectives between the three institutions, which have been working from different fields in favor of the social, cultural and economic development of Africa. In this context, the joint effort focuses on the comprehensive empowerment of women as a strategic way to promote more equitable, inclusive and empowered societies to face contemporary challenges.
FUNIBER contributes to this initiative its experience as an international institution dedicated to higher education, academic cooperation and cultural and scientific-technical promotion. With a presence in more than 35 countries, the Foundation articulates an International University Network and develops training programs, scholarships, innovation projects and cooperation actions that aim to facilitate access to quality education, overcoming geographical and economic barriers. For its part, UNEATLANTICO is one of the reference universities of the FUNIBER Network in Spain. It stands out for its strong international projection and for welcoming students from various continents, including a significant number of African students.
In parallel, the Women for Africa Foundation has consolidated itself as an international reference entity in promoting initiatives aimed at fostering fair and sustainable development in Africa, putting women at the center as a motor of social transformation. Its work, focused on equality, democracy, governance, peace, human rights and sustainable economic and social development, is articulated both through its own programs and through strategic alliances with institutions that share these principles.
One of the most concrete areas of this cooperation is the Learn Africa program, promoted by the Women for Africa Foundation. This post-graduate scholarship initiative is aimed at African women students and researchers and aims to facilitate their access to a quality higher education in Spanish academic institutions. Throughout its history, the program has opened real opportunities for training, research and leadership for hundreds of African participants, strengthening their capacity to make a professional and social impact upon returning to their countries of origin. In the 2026 call, the program also incorporates FUNIBER as a new collaborating institution.
In this context, FUNIBER has joined Learn Africa by awarding a 100% scholarship to study for a master’s degree from the European University of the Atlantic, in an online modality. According to the published call, this new collaboration expands training opportunities for African female candidates in an international and multilingual academic environment, aligned with the specialization and mobility needs of today.
This alliance represents an important step in the articulation of efforts between foundations and university institutions committed to the internationalization of knowledge, educational cooperation and the strengthening of African female talent. By promoting scholarships and specialization opportunities for women across the continent, the Women for Africa Foundation, FUNIBER, and the European University of the Atlantic reinforce a shared vision: that higher education is a crucial tool for building capacity, broaden professional horizons and contribute in a sustained way to the development of Africa.
