The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) organizes together with ASPACE Cantabria and COP Cantabria the Day on Suicide Prevention, aimed at students of the degree in Psychology (PSI) and celebrated in the Hall of Acts of the university.
The event was held throughout the day with different presentations from various professionals. They had five different authorities who provided different views and speakers. The speakers include the Vice Rector of Research and Knowledge Transfer of UNEATLANTICO, Dr. Juan Luis Martín; the Director of the Cantabro Institute of Social Services (ICASS), Dña. Ma Carmen Arce; the Councillor of Social Services, Family, Health, Personal Autonomy and Equality, Dña. Zulema Gancedo; the Dean of the Official College of Psychology of Cantabria. Nelly Cabrera Herrera and the General Director of ASPACE Cantabria, D. Gonzalo López Gándara.
At the end of the interventions, there was a screening of the documentary directed by Sergio Hernández, “El estigma del silencio”. This documentary covers the way in which suicide is a marginalized and silenced issue by society, using the life cycle as the thread of the documentary, where testimonies, real experiences and recommendations from survivors are interspersed, relatives and experts in the field of psychiatry and psychology in relation to suicide.
Subsequently, a workshop was held on primary suicide prevention and a round of questions in which the students were able to clarify any doubts that arose throughout the day.
The European University of the Atlantic is committed to providing a broad and professional vision to its students and that they can also learn firsthand from specialized professionals.
