The former Vice President of the Republic of Angola, Dr. Bornito de Sousa, visits UNEATLANTICO together with high authorities of the Angolan Embassy in Spain

Bornito de Sousa, Vice President of the Republic of Angola for the2017-2022 period and president of the Bornito de Sousa Foundation, has traveled to Spain with the aim, among others, of officially visiting the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) of the network of the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER). During his trip to Santander, he was accompanied by an Angolan delegation, including senior officials from the Angolan embassy in Spain.

In his visit to UNEATLANTICO, he has been received by the magnificent rector, Rubén Calderón; the general secretary, Roberto Ruiz; and the director of Institutional Relations of FUNIBER and director of the Cátedra FUNIBER de estudios iberoamericanos y de la Ibeofonía (FUNIBER Chair of Iberoamerican Studies and Iberophony), F. Álvaro Durantez Prados.

The Bornito de Sousa Foundation’s activities are based on five pillars: education, youth, and digital inclusion; social development and inclusion; environmental sustainability; African and Afro-descendant identity; and the promotion of citizenship, leadership, and governance. Taking into account the shared objectives between the Bornito de Sousa Foundation, UNEATLANTICO, UNIC, and FUNIBER, it has been agreed to sign a quadripartite collaboration agreement between the aforementioned institutions.

The agreement will be developed by promoting activities in the fields of higher education, culture, technology, ecology, sustainable development, dissemination, and science. The four institutions share the greatest interest in promoting knowledge and links between Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries around the world, with special emphasis on the African and particularly Angolan identity, considering the establishment of UNIC and the Foundation led by the philanthropist Dr. Bornito de Sousa.

The signatory institutions have concluded their collaboration agreement with a view to developing national and international projects, exchanging professors, researchers and professionals, and conducting courses and research projects. In turn, the signing of this agreement will promote reciprocal support in educational outreach activities of common interest.

For the Universidad Europea del Atlántico, it represents a significant advance in the internationalization of knowledge, bringing the students of the campus closer to an increasingly globalized reality, favoring an approach to African nations.
