Students of UNEATLANTICO are proclaimed winners of the Spanish University Karate Championship (CEU)

Martín González and Lucía Gómez, students of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), have emerged as champion and runner-up in the Spanish University Championship (CEU) of Karate.

Martín Gonzalez, a second-year student in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (PASS), took first place in this edition of the CEU de Karate. For her part, Lucía Gómez, a first-year student of the degree in Journalism (PER), achieved the subchampionship. Both share their experience in an interview on UNEATLANTICO Radio.

During the interview, both shared about their sporting career: Gómez started from a young age since his brothers practiced it and founded the Club Karate Kime Racing de Santander, to which González enrolled and began to practice.

For both students it is the first time they have won a medal in a national championship, Martín shares that he had been chasing gold for some time and finally succeeded, which is something extremely important and satisfying. For Lucía it is the first time she wins a medal in a championship and, despite not having won the gold, she is very satisfied with her work.

Gonzalez and Gomez share that the most difficult thing to combine university studies with high-level sport is the issue of schedules, some extracurricular activity clashes with training and they must make the decision to prioritize one. However, because of this Gonzalez shares that karate has taught him what “discipline is and if you want something you must work day by day to get it.”
