Professionals of the Armando Álvarez Group offer a talk on sustainability at UNEATLANTICO

Students of the fourth year of degrees in Advertising and Public Relations (PRP), Business Administration and Management (ADE) and Industrial Organization Engineering (IOI) from the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), within the subject of Corporate Social Responsibility, have received the visit of Andrés García de Tuñón, responsible for sustainability in Aspla, a company belonging to the Armando Álvarez Group.

The Armando Álvarez Group, a family business of Cantabrian origin founded in 1964, is one of the largest transformers of polyethylene plastic films in Spain. With a wide international presence, it has 18 companies specialized in sectors such as packaging, agriculture, geosynthetics, wood and renewable energy, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.

During the session, García de Tuñón explained the work that Aspla develops in relation to plastic materials, starting by detailing the scope of action of the company and the properties of these materials. The talk had a practical and dynamic character, relying on different objects that facilitated the understanding of the concepts presented.

Next, Lesya Rebrova, Export Trade Manager in Aspla, introduced the campaign “Encíntalo en Rosa”, a solidarity initiative to support research against breast cancer. Since 2018, the company produces a pink agricultural film, called Silograss, used by farmers to pack fodder. For each roll sold, the company makes donations to the Instituto de Biomedicina y Biotecnología de Cantabria (IBBTEC), making the rural landscape a symbol of awareness and support for this cause.

In the final part of the talk, García de Tuñón deepened the concept of sustainability applied to business, addressing aspects directly related to the contents of the subject and offering practical recommendations to students.

The session ended with a round of questions in which students were able to resolve their doubts and share impressions with the speakers. As a closing, hats of the product Silograss were distributed among the attendees.

In this way, UNEATLANTICO consolidates its commitment to practical training, bringing into the classroom real cases of companies that complement the theoretical teaching and allow students to learn firsthand about the application of academic content in the professional environment.
