The students of Journalism (PER) and Audiovisual Communication (CA) of UNEATLANTICO attended a talk by journalist Óscar García Mayo, organized by professor Mónica Revilla in the framework of the subject “Journalistic production routines: Radio and TV”. They talked about the keys and evolution of sports radio.
García Mayo focused much of his intervention on the differences between sports radio and general information, especially highlighting the tone and emotional connection with the public. “Sports radio transmits passion and closeness,” he said, noting that the sports listener is often a specialized audience and very involved with the teams and competitions they follow.
The journalist also addressed the impact of social media and digital platforms on content consumption. As he explained, the current radio not only listens but also adapts to audiovisual formats and networks such as YouTube, Instagram or TikTok. In this regard, he highlighted the importance of offering added value to the listener through analysis, chat sessions and real-time content.
During the meeting, García Mayo shared personal experiences related to interviews with players and sports broadcasts, emphasizing the need to combine journalistic rigor, analytical capacity and proximity to sources. In addition, he encouraged students interested in the sports field to build a good networking agenda and stay in constant learning.
The activity concluded with a question period in which several students showed their interest in the future of sports journalism and new forms of digital content creation.
