Jimena González, a professor at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), participated in the 15th Congress of the Spanish Society for Experimental Psychology from September 9th to 11th, organized by the Spanish Society for Experimental Psychology (SEPEX) and held jointly with the Belgian Association for Psychological Sciences in Valencia.
During the event, the professor presented a poster titled “Licensing Negation: Eye-Tracking and Pupillometry Evidence for Pragmatic Modulation,” in which she showed the results of the first two experiments conducted as part of her doctoral studies in psychology.
The study examines the processing of negative sentences and analyzes the influence of pragmatic context on their comprehension. To this end, the experiments use eye-tracking and pupillometry techniques, which allow for the analysis of eye movements during reading and changes in pupil diameter associated with cognitive effort during a task, respectively.
The results show that pragmatic context can facilitate the processing of negation, especially when it makes the use of a negative structure seem natural or expected to the listener.
The conference brought together researchers from Spain, Belgium, and other countries, and served as a forum for presenting and exchanging research findings in the field of experimental psychology.
Jimena González’s participation in this conference helps publicize the progress of her doctoral research and strengthens UNEATLANTICO’s presence in international academic circles related to the field of experimental psychology.
