During the meeting, he highlighted the importance of planning and organization as fundamental pillars for managing multiple projects simultaneously, especially in a sector as dynamic as audiovisual, where consistency and discipline make all the difference.
He also shared one of the most complex moments in his career: the period after graduation. San José recognized the difficulty of entering the labor market, even with university and postgraduate training. “When you’re an artist, the road is long and never-ending; you have to take care of your projects constantly. Many times, those outside the field don’t understand it and may even make you feel like you’re wasting your time. That’s where it all comes down: you can find your own strategy to move forward and get closer to your dream, or let yourself be carried away by the external voices,’ he reflected.
Currently, Gael San José is working on his first feature film, a project that, he explained, is also being a process of personal growth. The development of the script has allowed him to explore his own emotions and experiences, which has had a therapeutic effect: “Immersing myself in situations I didn’t want to see has healed me so much; I feel like a different person than when I started,” he said.
During the talk, he also recalled his beginnings with cameras, when he made videos of body painting and timelapses for YouTube. Although he acknowledges that those early works had technical limitations and numerous errors, they were key to learning how to record, edit and, above all, take the step of starting to create.
The visit ended with a close exchange with the students, who were able to learn firsthand about the reality of the audiovisual sector and the importance of consistency, organization and passion in building a career in the creative field.
