The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) is organizing a new session of the second edition of the employment conference “And Now What?” (“¿Y ahora qué?”) with a lecture by the Cantabrian lawyer Francisco Lamadrid de Pablo, partner in charge of the Brussels office and member of the European and competition law practice of Garrigues EU Law Office, one of the largest law firms in Europe.
Lamadrid started at Garrigues as an intern and with the passing of time and experience he grew within the firm. According to the speaker, “being there opened doors for me,” thanks to the scholarship that the company financed for the Cantabrian to pursue his second master’s degree at Harvard after having studied his first master’s degree at the College of Europe. Among the awards for his career, Lamadrid received the “Lawyer of the Year – Under 40” award granted by Global Competition Review in 2019.
An important aspect that Alfonso highlights from his professional career is the importance of languages. The need to master English and French meant that he was able to successfully complete his studies in Brussels and the United States from the very beginning.
The auditorium of UNEATLANTICO gathered more than a hundred students who attended Lamadrid’s talk. Students of different degrees such as Business Administration and Management (ADE), Computer Engineering (II), Industrial Organization Engineering (IOI), or Journalism (PER) listened and asked questions to Alfonso Lamadrid. He then shared his work experience within the field of European law but stressed the importance of professionals from different areas such as administration, engineering, or communication for the optimal development of their work.
Finally, the moderator, Francisco Zuzunegui, director of SITE UNEATLANTICO, emphasized key aspects that were decisive for Lamadrid’s successful career, such as “knowledge, effort, study, and humility to achieve a career at Garrigues.”
