The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic) and the Laredo Sports Club have signed an agreement to enhance the training of students and promote sports in Cantabria. The signing of the agreement took place in the board room of UNEATLANTICO in the presence of the rector of the university, Rubén Calderón, the head of the International Service of Agreements and Sports Agreements (Servicio Internacional de Convenios y Acuerdos Deportivos, SICAD), Josep Alemany, as well as the president of the Charles, José Miguel San Román, the club’s sports director, Manu Valle, and the university’s graduate student and coordinator of the entity, Josemi San Román.
“Laredo is a reference club, which stands out for the good work they do in the base at a formative level and that has a good structure,” said Josep Alemany after signing the agreement between the two entities. The Universidad Europea del Atlántico seeks to further enhance those synergies highly appreciated in the training of students, and this agreement will be beneficial both for the realization of practices and in the development of technicians and physical trainers. Additionally, the initiative seeks to bring together professionals for training and specialization in sports management.
This way, UNEATLANTICO continues to take steps forward in the growth of a network of agreements with clubs and federations of reference in various modalities. One of the objectives, as Alemany points out, is that those students who opt for the University can continue to develop their sporting careers, both at professional and amateur level: “We are designing a program that goes beyond the pursuit of academic excellence; we want our students not only to study but also to be able to further develop their careers. We work closely with federations and clubs, and we have a strong commitment to the development of women’s sports,” he stresses.
In this line, the head of SICAD points out that “we are willing to sign agreements with various sports disciplines and at different levels, seeking a mutual benefit for both institutions and, equally important, to contribute to the development of Cantabrian sport as a whole.” So much so that UNEATLANTICO, in its vocation to promote youth sports and reach all of Cantabria, has progressed in establishing agreements with agents of reference such as the Real Racing Club de Santander, the Real Federación Cántabra de Fútbol of Basketball, Swimming, Rugby, Chess, Badminton, or the Bathco Balonmano Torrelavega (handball), to mention a few.
Special mention should be made of the continued commitment to the Balonmano Pereda; the Universidad Europea del Atlántico is the main sponsor of the team with a clear commitment to women’s sports as it is its oldest sports agreement, and enthusiasm is renewed every year together with the main women’s representative.
