The Gustavo Bueno Foundation (FGB) will celebrate from 20 to 24 July 2026, in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, La Rioja, Spain, the 22nd Philosophy Course under the title “Challenges of philosophical formation in the twenty-first century”, an academic initiative that will bring together specialists from different areas of humanistic thought to address the contemporary challenges of teaching philosophy, its role in the critical formation of new generations and its role in an international context marked by profound cultural, technological and geopolitical transformations.
The conference will take place in the Sala Gustavo Bueno, in the town of La Rioja and will have the collaboration of the Universidad Europea del Atlantico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) and the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER), of which the FGB is an associated center. Also, the course is developed with the sponsorship and institutional support of the City Council of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, consolidating this Riojana locality as one of the reference spaces for philosophical thought and humanistic debate in the Hispanic context.
A Consolidated Academic Collaboration
The association of UNEATLANTICO and FUNIBER in this activity is part of a sustained cooperation with the Gustavo Bueno Foundation in the field of higher philosophical formation and contemporary humanistic reflection. As a result of this collaboration, both institutions are currently promoting postgraduate programs such as the Master’s in Philosophy of the Present and the Specialization in Foundations of Philosophy, aimed at promoting rigorous and interdisciplinary training in contemporary philosophical thought.
This cooperation has also been projected in the joint organization of international meetings linked to philosophy, Ibero-American culture and the geopolitical dimension of Iberian languages. In November 2024, as part of the thirtieth edition of the Philosophical Meetings held in Almagro, took place the fourth edition of the Ibero-American Forum and the Ibero-American Foundation organized jointly by the Gustavo Bueno Foundation and the FUNIBER Chair of Ibero-American Studies and the Ibero-American Studies. Those days constituted a space for interdisciplinary analysis on the cultural and linguistic realities of Hispanity and Ibero-Phony, with the participation of the director of the Chair, Dr. Frigdiano Álvaro Durántez Prados, who gave the inaugural conference entitled “From Hispanity to Ibero-Fonía”.
Subsequently, in October 2025, during the 32 Meetings of Philosophy of the Gustavo Bueno Foundation, held in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, the VI Ibero-American and Ibero-American Forum was developed, focused on the analysis of Spanish as a philosophical language, its capacity for cultural cohesion and its international projection. On this occasion, Dr. Durántez gave the presentation “Spanish, pillar of Ibero-Fonía and universal language”, in which he addressed the strategic dimension of Spanish in the current international scenario and its relevance as a global language of communication.
The celebration of the XXII Course of Philosophy highlights the continuity of a line of work aimed at strengthening critical and humanistic thinking in the face of the challenges of the twenty-first century. In a context marked by rapid social, cultural and technological transformations, initiatives of this nature contribute to reclaiming the value of the humanities as fundamental instruments for understanding contemporary dynamics and for forming citizens with analytical ability and critical sense.
In addition, the participation of UNEATLANTICO and FUNIBER reinforces their commitment to the articulation of international academic networks and the promotion of Spanish-language thinking within major intellectual debates, in this case with the prestigious Gustavo Bueno Foundation. In this way, the course is configured not only as a specialized training activity, but also as a space of intellectual encounter that contributes to the strengthening of cultural and university cooperation in the pan-Iberian sphere.
