The ALESON team, winner of the 3rd edition of the 3×3 Basketball tournament, promoted by the Physical Activity and Sports Service (PASS) of UNEATLANTICO, will compete for a place in the Spanish University Championship (Campeonato de España Universitario, CEU) in this basketball modality.
The appointment will be against the University of Cantabria, and in case of success in this confrontation, they will play the CEU in Zaragoza from May 10 to 12. The team is made up of Gabriel Cuesta Fernández, Rodrigo Navamuel Ríos, both students of the Psychology degree (PSI), and Adrián Frechilla Gómez, Juan Sánchez Barquín, and David Ybema García, who are studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science (CAFYD).
Before facing UC, the ALESON won the 4th UNEATLANTICO 3×3 Basketball Tournament, beating the “Big Ballers” in the final, who came in second place. This type of basketball, with a reduced number of athletes on the court compared to the five players of the traditional version, provides more visibility, speed, intensity, and teamwork, of course.
Although it comes from classic basketball, the game in practice is played differently:
- The playing field is small, although it is possible to play on a traditional size court.
- Both teams have to score in the same basket.
- The ball is size 6 (women’s category) but with a weight identical to that used in men’s competitions.
- The score is 1 for free shots and inside the area, while from outside the area 2 are added.
- Possessions are 12 seconds, and the duration of the game is 10 minutes. But there is the caveat of concluding the game when one of the teams reaches 21 points
Participation in the CEU
The Spanish University Championship is held every year in which those universities classified in the previous phase at territorial level participate. For the celebration of the 3×3 basketball modality, from the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic), we wish luck to the ALESON team in the regional phase.
