Iñaki Elío, director of the degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (NHD) at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO), coordinates and participates as guest editor in the special edition «Diet and Nutrition: Metabolic Diseases».
The participation of Elío in this new edition underlines the recognition for the institution of the editorial coordination of a thematic issue in a Q1 magazine with Journal Impact Factor of 5.0 and position 17/112 in Nutrition & Dietetics according to JCR 2024. The special issue compiles 11 research articles and 3 reviews that address, from a translational perspective, the relationship between eating habits and metabolic health in high-prevalence pathologies such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
The new edition is available in book format from MDPI Books, a format that offers an additional way of dissemination and consultation of the content of the Special Issue in open access, facilitating the academic and professional use of the set of works; The PDF version of the volume is available for reading and download, consistent with MDPI’s opening and preservation policies.
In thematic terms, the compilation reviews biological mechanisms that connect nutrition and metabolic dysfunction -inflammation, oxidative stress and intestinal microbiome- and evaluates the effectiveness of different dietary patterns, such as plant-based diets, low glycemic index approaches and the Mediterranean diet, as well as considering life-course and innovative proposals such as functional foods, nutraceuticals and sustainable practices.
The editorial leadership of a Special Issue in Nutrients, together with its distribution in book format, strengthens the international projection of the University in clinical nutrition and metabolism by placing the production and coordination of the cluster in a scientific forum of high impact and open access, with proven reach in research communities and clinical practice.
