In a practical session as part of the subject “Biomechanics of Human Movement” taught by the teacher Ainhoa Bores of the degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CAFYD), the students of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) had the opportunity to learn directly from Aurelio “Yeyo” Corral, an expert in biomechanics and cycling performance.
The class focused on the application of biomechanics specifically to cycling, an area in which Corral has accumulated vast experience. Aurelio Corral’s visit allowed the students to see firsthand how biomechanical analysis is performed in professional cycling. “Thanks to the fact that Yeyo brought his own work material, the students were able to observe the use of advanced technologies in this field,” explained Bores.
Biomechanics of Human Movement is a discipline that studies the mechanical behavior of the human body, with a focus on injury prevention and sports performance optimization. In this subject, students learn to analyze the mechanical principles of various movements and to apply this knowledge in sports practice.
The aim of the course is that students not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also become familiar with the most common instruments for biomechanical analysis and master the mathematical operations necessary for data processing.
Aurelio Corral, Technical Performance Director at the Astana Qazaqstan Team, has extensive experience working with elite athletes, and is aware of how biomechanics plays a key role in improving performance, especially in time trials and in optimizing the use of aerodynamic materials and technologies.
From UNEATLANTICO, it is considered essential that students understand that biomechanics is not just theory. It is applied every day in high performance sports to improve the efficiency and safety of athletes.
