The Nutritional Care Center (Centro de Atención Nutricional, CAN) of CITICAN, an interdepartmental organization located on planta -2 (floor -2) of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), renews its permit to continue developing Research, Development, and Innovation (R+D+i) projects in the field of nutrition and health.
The CAN prioritizes the learning of healthy eating habits through an approach based on the latest scientific evidence on food and health. To offer personalized attention, the center provides individualized dietary plans adapted to the needs and preferences of each individual, ensuring the necessary intake of macronutrients and micronutrients.
It has also launched several studies such as RUNEAT or Nutrinoids, with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Sandra Sumalla, and the academic director of the degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Dr. Iñaki Elío.
The Nutritional Care Center’s work process begins with the completion of a dietary record three days prior to the appointment, allowing professionals to analyze and discuss the patient’s eating habits. During the initial consultation, aspects such as food preferences, diagnosed pathologies, physical activity, and schedule availability are studied in depth in order to elaborate a plan according to individual characteristics.
One of the highlights of the CAN method is the use of bioimpedance to perform a detailed study of body composition, addressing aspects such as muscle mass, fat mass, bone mass, and body water.
In the following visits, the center delivers the personalized diet and provides detailed explanations on the guidelines and strategies to maintain proper adherence to the treatment. Follow-up includes re-evaluation of the results obtained, adjusting the dietary plan according to the evolution and needs of the patient.
What services do they offer?
The Nutritional Care Center specializes in several areas, offering nutritional counseling in situations such as weight loss, improvement of eating habits, sports nutrition, treatment of pathologies, adaptation to life stages, vegetarianism, and body composition analysis.
The renewal of the authorization reflects CAN’s ongoing commitment to the promotion of healthy eating habits and the constant search for customized solutions for each patient. The institution has consolidated its position as a reference in the field of nutrition, actively contributing to the wellbeing of the university community and society in general.
