UNEATLANTICO trains more than a hundred people in new technologies through civic centers in Santander

The Santander City Council has announced this week the offer of 9,000 spots in 537 activities in the civic centers of the city, highlighting the initiative promoted by the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), which since November promotes training in new technologies.

The technology management and digital literacy courses, a project hosted by the Santander City Council with the participation of UNEATLANTICO and the Telefónica Foundation, have already received the participation of a total of 125 students. “These are very personalized courses, aimed at groups of 5-6 students, which are having a great success and that we will continue in 2024,” said the mayor of Santander, Gema Igual.

The councilor has expressed her satisfaction with the operation of the activities scheduled in the network of civic centers during the Christmas period in which more than 3,000 people have participated and has advanced that the year begins with 537 workshops, —458 workshops for adults and 79 for children—, and almost 9,000 spots (7,542 and 1,382 per quarter), respectively.

UNEATLANTICO Training

The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO) has teamed up with the Santander City Council and the Telefónica Foundation to train volunteers and instructors who will be in charge of giving workshops designed to strengthen the digital skills of the population, especially the elderly.

As detailed in the appearance, these workshops will be taught by monitors of the civic centers and student volunteers from the Universidad Europea del Atlántico to which, previously, the Telefónica Foundation will provide specialized training in the field of new technologies thanks to the collaboration and knowledge of its Telefónica Volunteers. The workshops are scheduled to begin in December and will be held in the ten civic centers that have a telecenter through 5 two-hour sessions, with a frequency of one day a week. Those interested may register at the civic centers where the courses are held.

The training offer is aimed at the entire population in general but is specifically aimed at the elderly, as it offers basic notions so that this group can handle themselves with solvency in the digital environment. In this sense, it has been advanced that the contents are focused on familiarizing users in the use and management of the cell phone, in general, the smartphone, applications such as WhatsApp, and also provide instructions on cybersecurity.
