The auditorium of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) hosts the third talk of the series “Sport and health: voices that inspire” under the title “Injury prevention and its evolution”.
Luis Hoyos and Yago Regal, outstanding physical trainers of the Real Racing Club youth academy, have started the day with a keynote speech. During their intervention, they have addressed the issue of the most common injuries, analyzing how prevention has evolved in the sports field in recent years. In addition, they have highlighted the factors that can cause an injury, the invisible work before and after training, and shared recovery strategies. All this knowledge is part of the PREVENGOL project, a collaboration between Real Racing Club, the Federation and UNEATLANTICO, which seeks to improve the health and performance of athletes.
On the other hand, the round table has counted with the participation of leading professionals in the sector, including Gonzalo Colsa, former professional footballer and current Coordinator of the Real Racing Club’s youth academy; Álvaro Mantilla, player of the green and white first team; and Fernando Maniega, fitness trainer, physical trainer and teacher of UNEATLANTICO. This diversity of voices has made it possible to analyze injury prevention from different perspectives, including the experience of current and former professional players, as well as the methodologies used at different times.
It should be noted that the initiative, promoted by the Royal Cantabrian Football Federation, UNEATLANTICO and the Real Racing Club Foundation, is part of a program of four training sessions. After addressing topics such as training planning in team sports and mental health in sport, the talk on injury prevention has marked another milestone in the dissemination of knowledge in the field of sports.
The next session, scheduled for May 13, will deal with “Tools to accompany the young athlete”, thus closing a cycle of enriching and motivating conferences for all those interested in sport and health.
