The Gastroatlántico expert council, promoted by the Degree in Gastronomy of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), met to formulate proposals, training activities, projects and research.
In addition, on this occasion, the Hospitality Business Association of Cantabria was given a voice and proposed the challenges of the gastronomic sector in the short/medium term, the importance of specific training, sustainable development and the attraction and retention of talent.
The board session was attended by representatives of the European University of the Atlantic, Rubén Calderón, rector of the University, and Sandra Sumalla, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Likewise, the Cantabrian Academy of Gastronomy was represented by its president, Javier Hernández de Sande, and on behalf of the Association of Hoteliers of Cantabria, the president, María Ángeles Pérez, accompanied by the director, Bárbara Gutiérrez. The general directors, Paulino San Emeterio -Fisheries and Food- and Gustavo Cubero -Tourism- also participated.
Also in attendance were Toni González, chef at Nuevo Molino, where the lunch meeting was held, as well as the head of the Agri-Food Office of CEOE-CEYPME Cantabria, Pachi Aguilera; Mar Pacheco, from CITICAN; and Roberto García-Borbolla, director of Institutions at Banco Santander, the institution that promotes Gastroatlantico through the UNEATLANTICO-Santander Chair of Innovation in the Food Industry.
Gastroatlántico is a consultative forum, whose aim is to promote strategic alliances that allow to join efforts towards a competitive development of gastronomy in Cantabria and to promote its growth.
The Universidad Europea del Atlántico is the only university institution in the north of Spain with four academic degrees related to food: Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology, Agricultural and Food Industry Engineering and Gastronomy.
