The Cultural Work of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European Atlantic University, UNEATLANTICO) and the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER),in collaboration with the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (UNIC), the Embassy of Spain in Angola, the transport company AJS, and with the sponsorship of ENSA Seguros de Angola, inaugurated on 13 September the exhibition of engravings «La Conquista del Cosmos» by the artist Salvador Dalí at the National Museum of Archaeology in Benguela.
The city of Benguela hosted on Saturday 13 September one of the most important cultural events of the year with the opening of the exhibition «La conquista del cosmos», by the master of Spanish surrealism Salvador Dalí. The exhibition, which is exhibited at the National Museum of Archaeology in Benguela, presents a rare selection of engravings and lithographs that explore the relationship between humans and the universe, inviting the public to immerse themselves in the artist’s cosmic imagination.
The inaugural event was attended by the deputy governor of Benguela for Technical Services and Infrastructures, Adilson Gonçalves, in charge of cutting the tape, accompanied by the chairman of the Executive Committee of ENSA Seguros de Angola, engineer Mota Lemos, and the Rector of the Universidad Internacional del Cuanza (UNIC), Dr. Carlos Jélvez Martínez. The executive administrator of ENSA, Dr. Matilde Guebe, and other personalities linked to the cultural, academic and business sector.
On the occasion, the deputy governor stressed the importance of the initiative to strengthen the cultural offer of the province and consolidate Benguela as a center of artistic diffusion in Angola.
For his part, the rector of UNIC, who also spoke on behalf of FUNIBER, underlined the uniqueness of the collection, composed of ten engravings and lithographs produced by Dalí in the 1970s:
“The Conquest of the Cosmos series is a fusion between art and science, which shows us how imagination can cross borders and open new horizons of knowledge. By hosting this exhibition in Benguela, we celebrate not only Dalí’s genius, but also his commitment to bringing art closer to education and community, inspiring each visitor to conquer their own cosmos,” he said.
Inspired by the launch of the first Soviet satellite in 1957, the series translates the fusion between science, imagination and surrealism, materialized in dreamlike landscapes that reflect Dalí’s vision of space as an extension of the human condition. For the first time in the country, the public has access to a unique collection of 11 original engravings and two sketches signed and numbered in pencil by the master himself, in an edition limited to only 195 copies worldwide.
For the engineer Mota Lemos, supporting the realization of this event reinforces the role of ENSA in the cultural development of the country:
“Just like last year, when we presented works by Pablo Picasso, today, 13 September 2025, we celebrate another historic moment in the Angolan cultural and cultural panorama. It is a unique opportunity to come into direct contact with the genius of Salvador Dalí, in a gesture that reaffirms our commitment to the promotion of art and cultural literacy in Angola”.
During the guided tour, the rector of UNIC led those present in the interpretation of the works, enriching the experience of the public and underlining the pedagogical value of the exhibition.
With this exhibition, Benguela is integrated into a cultural cycle that has brought to Angola collections of great masters of universal art, placing the country in the international circuit of major exhibitions and reaffirming the role of culture as a link between education, Society and development.
