The Cultural Work of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) and FUNIBER celebrated last September 12th, in collaboration with the University Mariano Gálvez (UMG), the Official Chamber of Commerce in Guatemala and the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre in Antigua Guatemala (CFCE) the opening of the exhibition ‘Gala’s Dinners’ and ‘The whimsical dreams of Pantagruel’, by the artist Salvador Dalí, in the exhibition hall of the CFCE.
The opening event was attended by Mr. Jesús Molina, Director of the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre in Antigua, Dr. Eduardo Silva Alvarado, Director of the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER), at its headquarters in Guatemala, and Mr. Haroldo Jiménez, Deputy Director of the University Centre of the Mariano Gálvez University in Antigua Guatemala.
The exhibition, consisting of two series by Salvador Dalí, will remain on display until 26 October. The exhibition will be open from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 to 18:00.
On the one hand, ‘Gala’s Dinners’ is made up of 12 photomontages by Dalí inspired by a Gala dinner at Maxim’s restaurant in Paris. On the other hand, ‘The whimsical dreams of Pantagruel’ is a set of 25 colour lithographs on Japanese paper based on the satirical and humanist work of the French writer François Rabelais.
These are two series of engravings by the painter from Cadaqués, very illustrative of his very personal style, which fits in with surrealist trends, where the absurd, the dreamlike, the surprising and the bizarre make up a puzzle of pieces of great artistic value.
