Under the subject of Occupational Risk Management, students from the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) enrolled in the degrees of Business Administration and Management (BAM), Industrial Organization Engineering (IOE), Agricultural and Food Industries Engineering (IIAA) and Food Science and Technology (CTA) made several visits to companies in the industrial environment with the aim of complementing their theoretical training with practical experience.
The first of these activities took place at the facilities of Flejes Especiales, S.L., where the students were accompanied by María Ochoa, teacher of UNEATLANTICO. Flejes Especiales, S.L is a service center founded in 1999 whose main activity is the longitudinal cutting of steel and metal coils, for their transformation into banding and sale on the market.
The visit enabled the students to learn firsthand about the application of occupational risk prevention in the business environment. During the tour, different preventive measures integrated into manufacturing processes were shown, as well as examples of collective and individual protections, safety procedures and good practices implemented in the organization. This experience facilitated a better understanding of the role played by prevention in the day-to-day management of an industrial enterprise.
On another occasion, and within the same framework, the students made a visit to the company IMEM Elevators, dedicated to the design and manufacture of vertical mobility solutions. Founded in 1968, IMEM has a long track record and has been involved in projects of international importance such as the Paris metro, Oxford University or Manchester airport.
During the visit to IMEM, students were able to learn about the processes of innovation, design and manufacture of lifts, as well as aspects related to the management of raw materials, the integrated quality and environmental systems and occupational risk prevention policies applied in the company.
Through these initiatives, UNEATLANTICO reinforces its commitment to comprehensive training, promoting the direct contact of students with the professional environment and encouraging the development of skills related to their future work activity.
