The renowned Spanish violinist and conductor, Dr. José Manuel Gil de Gálvez, a Latin Grammy nominee and member of The Recording Academy, will visit Bolivia to offer two concerts and a master class as part of the celebrations for the Bicentennial of Bolivia and the National Holiday of Spain.
These activities are organized by the European Atlantic University (UNEATLANTICO) and the Cultural Work of the Iberoamerican University Foundation(FUNIBER) with the support of leading cultural and educational institutions in the country.
Ibero-American Gala in Santa Cruz – October 13
The first concert will be held on Monday, 13 October, at 7:30 pm, at the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre (Calle Arenales No 583). At this Ibero-American Gala, Maestro Gil de Gálvez will be accompanied by the Santa Ana de Velasco Missionary Orchestra, in an evening organized by UNEATLANTICO, FUNIBER and the Latin American Foundation for Development (FLADES), with the collaboration of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Embassy of Spain in Bolivia.
Ibero-American Gala in La Paz – October 16
The second concert will take place on Thursday, October 16, at 20:00 hours, at the National Symphony Center (Calle Ayacucho No 366, between Mercado and Potosí). On this occasion, the Spanish master will perform together with the National Symphony Orchestra in an event sponsored by the Embassy of Spain, UNEATLANTICO, FUNIBER and the Empresa Minera San Cristóbal.
Both concerts seek to pay tribute to the cultural heritage shared between Bolivia and Spain, strengthening historical and cultural ties between the two nations through music. Admission is free, subject to confirmation by e-mail to recepción.bo@funiber.org or 65051615.
Master class at the National Conservatory of Music – 17 October
To close his visit, Dr. Gil de Gálvez will give a Masterclass on Friday 17 October at the National Conservatory of Music. This session will give Bolivian students and musicians the opportunity to learn from one of the most recognized interpreters on the international scene, characterized by his pedagogical commitment and his impulse to new generations of artists.
Gil de Gálvez is a polyhedral artist who approaches music from different prisms, interpretation, pedagogy, dissemination, management and research, and which has as its thread the violin, its instrument, and orchestra direction. Since 1996 he has been First Violin and leader of the prestigious Spanish string orchestra Concerto Málaga. He has led multiple groups on international stages, establishing himself as a key figure in contemporary classical music.
Through its Cultural Work, UNEATLANTICO promotes the dissemination of art and music as tools for union and social development. The Foundation, with a presence in more than 35 countries, promotes cultural activities that strengthen the Ibero-American identity and promote dialogue between cultures, reaffirming its mission of academic, scientific and cultural cooperation at the service of the progress of peoples.
