Dr. Juan Luis Martín, academic director of the degree in Psychology and the master’s degree in General Health Psychology at the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), and editor-in-chief of the journal MLS Psychology Research, announces the publication of Volume 7 – Number 1 of the journal.
The journal, MLS Psychology Research, is a biannual journal that aims to publish research and review articles in the field of psychology in order to develop and advance scientific psychology. The articles are published in Spanish, English and Portuguese, thus supporting the international projection and disseminating knowledge of diverse sociocultural environments.
A total of eight articles were included in this new edition. The topics range from the study of depression and loneliness to the perception of parents and their parenting styles, some of them with international approaches.
The first article: Psychosocial aspects that influence rural women in Honduras to participate in community enterprises, deals with the consequences of psychosocial aspects in the personal, social and material aspects of women’s participation in community enterprises in Honduras.
The second article entitled “Levels of loneliness and depressive symptomatology of PUCMM health sciences students at the Santiago de los Caballeros campus” is the work following an analysis to measure the degree of loneliness and depression in university students from the health area at the Santiago de los Caballeros campus of PUCMM, Dominican Republic.
The article “Perception of parents and children regarding parenting styles and their relationship with the sense of life in Campeche” is the result of the analysis of 76 adolescents between 12-18 years of age and their parents, in 10 neighborhoods of the city of San Francisco de Campeche, Mexico, highlighting how parenting style affects and how this affects the lifestyle of adolescents.
The article entitled “Perspectives on the effect of virtual education and confinement on the emotions of children from two to five years old and their families, in a pandemic context”, studies the health emergency generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the changes this generated in the way classes were taught during this period and how this affected the students on an emotional level.
On the other hand, the article “Emotional and psychological variables in families that have a child with a disability” is based on a study that had as an object of analysis, families with sons or daughters with some type of disability, and how this generates stress, depression and its emotional impact on parents.
The sixth article in this issue, “Evaluation of a strategy based on pedagogical mediation for the development of meta-componential skills”, is a quasi-experimental study aimed at observing the effects of a strategy based on pedagogical mediation for the development of students’ metacognition. ertyu
Seventh article: HIV and suicide attempt in the municipality of Ibagué- Colombia during the years 2020-2021 The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between suicide attempt and HIV diagnosis in Colombia during the years 2020-2021. It was evaluated that during the year 2020 there were 1106 suicide attempts and 361 HIV diagnoses, for the year 2021 a frequency of 933 suicide attempts and 335 HIV diagnoses.
Finally, the last article of this edition, “Competence to learn in police officers”, focused on observing and learning the competence to learn in police personnel. For this purpose, a sample of 40.6% women and 59.4% men was used. Four dimensions were also included: self-management of learning, which refers to the person’s ability to plan his or her learning process; knowledge construction, based on the concept that all knowledge is constructed from previously acquired knowledge; personal knowledge as a learner, which entails knowing oneself from one’s capabilities, skills and personal limitations; and knowledge transfer, which implies the process by which the person transfers the constructed knowledge, whether these are operations, strategies, to use them in new situations, whether in the daily or school context.
