Dr. José Ramos Vivas, professor of Microbiology at the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), has given at the Southwest University (SWU) in the Chinese city of ChongQing the talk “In vitro models for the study of infections by multi-resistant bacteria isolated from foods” in the framework of the International Seminar on Food Safety and Nutrition “The Belt and Road”.
Subsequently, he met with professors from Southwest University (SWU) to discuss options for collaboration and to strengthen bilateral cooperation between SWU and the European University of the Atlantic.
Southwest University (SWU) is a university sponsored by China’s Ministry of Education, founded in 2005 after the merger of Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University, both of which are more than 100 years old. The total number of students at SWU exceeds 80,000. The university covers a wide range of academic disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture and management, offering 40 key disciplines nationally, 159 master’s degree programs, 97 bachelor’s degrees and 66 doctoral programs.
SWU is located in Chongqing Municipality, a municipality in southwest China that lies at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Its strategic position in the river network makes it a crucial point for trade and economy.
Dr. José Ramos was able to discuss his research results on antibiotic-resistant food-borne bacteria, as well as probiotics and bacteriophage viruses, with students from the Faculty of Food Science. In addition, participants in the international seminar had the opportunity to visit the historical and cultural center of the city, as well as Southwest University, and companies in the agri-food sector of ChongQing.
