Communication students do an internship in art direction at Las Hermanísimas facilities

The students of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) enrolled in the subject of “Art Direction”, included in the Communication Degree programs, have successfully carried out an internship at the facilities of Las Hermanísimas, a leading production company in northern Spain.

The students’ outing consisted in the creation of a dossier with the artistic treatment that takes place on a film set. To this end, the students, led by María Ingelmo, UNEATLANTICO professor and CEO of Las Hermanísimas, oversaw capturing the ideas of colors, textures, and references in their “artist’s notebooks”.

To get a working experience closer to reality, UNEATLANTICO students moved to the facilities of Las Hermanísimas for two days. During this period, Ingelmo provided a detailed explanation of the next step of the activity, using professional material to enrich the participants’ understanding.

In the spacious and complete facilities of Las Hermanísimas, the students of the Degree in Audiovisual Communication (CA), Journalism (PER), and Advertising and Public Relations (PRP) were divided into four groups. Each group was assigned the responsibility of setting a space or set with very specific characteristics, making use of the material provided by Las Hermanísimas to ensure the fidelity and quality required.

The first group had the task of adapting their set into a young couple’s living room. The second group was to decorate their set projecting a stay in a rural house. On their set, the third group worked on interpreting a castle built by children. The space of group four had to be set up as an office.

On the other hand, the worked on interpreting a castle built by children, while the fourth team had to be set up their space as an office.

UNEATLANTICO’s professor, María Ingelmo, considers that the experience has been “extremely gratifying”, highlighting that the students have taken full advantage of the opportunity to intervene in a real way on a set, which has contributed significantly to acquiring greater learning.

This hands-on activity has provided students with the valuable opportunity to work as a team on a set within an art department, getting involved in the selection of furniture and props. In this way, UNEATLANTICO students achieved the goal of developing a coherent narrative while experimenting and enjoying an experience that vindicates the importance of doing external internships in work environments.
