Adrián Rodríguez, teacher of the Degree in Sciences of Physical Activity and Sport (CAFYD) of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), has published a scientific research article that is part of his doctoral thesis.

Dr. Rubén Navarro Platón, Dr. Marcos Mecía Calvo and Giovanna Ruiz García, a graduate student of UNEATLANTICO, participated in the development of the article.

The article entitled Attitudes and Skills in Basic Life Support after Two Types of Training: Traditional vs. Gamification, of Compulsory Secondary Education Students: A Simulation Study, was published in the journal “Pediatric Reports”. This article focused on analyzing the attitudes and practical skills learned in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) students about basic life support (BLS). The analysis was carried out through a gamified training and proposal.

They used a sample of 78 students, most of them between 13-14 years of age. A comparative study was carried out, so they divided the students into two different groups: the control group (traditional proposal) and the experimental group (gamified proposal). They made use of an interactive manikin for the execution of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), an attitude and motivation questionnaire on BLS and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The results showed that the group that was trained with the gamified proposal presented better attitudes and intentions to act than the group with traditional training. In addition, in CPR and AED skills, the gamified method allows to obtain similar results to traditional teaching.
