The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) commemorates International Women’s Day with an initiative promoted by the Student Delegation. This activity under the name of “yo me mancho por el 8M” (I stain myself for the 8M) has been carried out at the reception of the university, with a university community turned to participate in its development.
On the day before Women’s Day, all the university delegates painted a poster with the activity’s slogan. Today, March 8, International Women’s Day, the UNEATLANTICO community painted their hands in different shades of purple to take part in the event. The entire university community, including the faculty and administrative staff of the institution, has collaborated with the action carried out to make this day visible.
For her part, Eloisa Bassett, UNEATLANTICO student delegate, emphasizes that “the initiative shows that we can all work together to raise awareness about 8M and the importance of making visible the role and effort that women develop in all areas.” Mayte Galán, head of the Student Service of the university adds that “this activity organized by the Student Delegation, and the participation of students who recognize the ground gained by women, highlights the contribution we make in the social, cultural, and professional field from UNEATLANTICO.”
It should be noted that the mission and commitment of the University’s Equality Commission is to establish and develop policies that integrate equal treatment and opportunities between women and men, without discriminating directly or indirectly based on sex, as well as to promote the promotion and encouragement of measures to achieve real equality within our university community. For this reason, during the year, different initiatives are carried out to contribute to this mission, such as, for example, the presence of teachers and students in the Tiempo Mujer Conferences, the awareness-raising on female nutrition issues by Dr. Sandra Sumalla, the community’s participation in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, or the commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
