The Sports Service (SAFD) of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), organized a new edition of the “Discover + Sport” project, which is responsible for promoting little known sports. On this occasion, an educational and practical badminton session was held, which was organized with the Cantabria Badminton Federation (Federación Cántabra de Bádminton, FECBA).
This session was open to all students at the university and was completely free of charge. The session was led by Enrique Javier Ruiz, member of the Cantabrian Badminton Federation, accompanied by two federated players: Paula Yedra, 15 years old, runner-up of Spain in Women’s Doubles Under 15. And Raúl Yedra, 17 years old, who is part of the Badminton Technification Center of Cantabria with Paula and, despite his young age, is one of the best players in Cantabria.
In this way, Enrique Ruiz gave several demonstrations of badminton techniques with the help of Raul and Paula so that the students could have a visual image of how to hold the racquet, how to hit the shuttlecock correctly, different training routines, and more.
The students practiced the sport in different groups and began use the techniques previously learned, enjoying a physically active afternoon. Finally, it was announced that the first badminton tournament will be held on March 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the University’s facilities. Registrations are now open and you can sign up for the tournament by filling out the following form.
