Wednesday, November 8, marked the beginning of a new stage for theater at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO). Under the organization of the director of the Escuela de Cine y TV de Cantabria (Cantabria Film and TV School), Javier Cifrián, and the director of the Aula de Teatro (Theater Classroom), Lorena Güemes, the first session of the Aula de Teatro of this academic year took place.
As usual, this extracurricular activity attracted students from various careers and different academic courses, some of whom had already had the opportunity to participate in the Aula de Teatro in previous years, while for others it was their first experience in this artistic field. The main objective of the inaugural session was to establish a connection among the students, so exercises were organized to help create a convivial atmosphere for all participants to get to know each other.
Participation in UNEATLANTICO’s Aula de Teatro offers students the opportunity to explore and develop their acting skills, providing a creative space where they can express themselves and experience different scenic techniques. In addition, the program also offers the possibility of participating in a theatrical play at the end of the course that puts into practice the students’ learning obtained in the classroom. In previous years, students participating in the theatrical activities brought to the auditorium performances of Fuenteovejuna by the Spanish playwright Lope de Vega and “Cuadros de amor y humor, al fresco” (Frames of love and humor, al fresco) by José Luis Alonso de Santos, Spanish playwright, stage director, screenwriter, and actor, winner of numerous awards. On both occasions, the members of the Aula de Teatro UNEATLANTICO donated the proceeds of the tickets to charitable causes, through the Oficina de de Cooperación y Acción Social (Cooperation and Social Action Office, OCAS).
With the success of the first session of the 2023/2024 academic year, it is hoped that the Aula de Teatro of UNEATLANTICO will continue to grow and play a fundamental role in the artistic and cultural education of the university’s students.
