A group of students of the subject Information Law, taught by Professor Marcos Bermejo, of the degree in Journalism (PER) of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) attend the II Conference on Artificial Intelligence organized by the Diario Cantabria and Openhost.
This II Conference on Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges in the Media, organised by Luis Barquín from El Diario Cantabria and David Martínez, CEO at Openhost, experts and leaders of the Spanish journalism analysed different prisms of why AI is not an option, but a strategic priority.
Journalist Coral González was in charge of introducing the event and its speakers. Juan Zafra, general director of the Club Abierto de Editores (CLABE) was responsible for introducing the event. Marcos Bermejo, Communication Director of Foundation Human Talent and teacher at UNEATLANTICO, as well as trainer and journalist, spoke about AI and the right to information. Afterwards, Jordi Fernández, together with Didac Antón, spoke about Rankerfy, a tool for SEOs and nicheros.
On the other hand, Chus del Río as editor of NueveCuatroUno, spoke about the perspective of how to use AI in a local newspaper, and Fermín Mier, content director of Cadena SER Cantabria, about the tools developed by Grupo Prisa that they use to fight against false or manipulated audios.
The presentation continued with David Martínez and Andrés Martínez, who presented a new Opennemas tool that, with AI, allows journalists and editors to design articles from scratch, correct texts or adapt them to Google’s quality standards, and with Álvaro Mazariegos, director of Audiences at El Español, who discussed Google Discover traffic and offered some guidelines to make it more stable.
This experience has been an opportunity for future communicators to learn how to deal with the development of Artificial Intelligence and to learn how to apply it as a tool in an effective way.
