To mark the San José festivities, UNEATLANTICO Radio is broadcasting a special live programme from Astillero Town Hall.
During the broadcast, the university radio team gave listeners a taste of the essence of a festival that brings together thousands of locals and visitors every year, combining tradition, culture, music, sport and community involvement, and which has been recognised as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.
The programme featured the Mayor of Astillero, Javier Fernández Soberón, who highlighted the importance of the recent tourism designation and praised the joint efforts of associations, social clubs and local residents in organising the celebrations. He also previewed some of the main new features of this year’s event, such as the ‘Miracle of the Wine’.
The mayor also emphasised the council’s commitment to expanding the range of leisure activities for all age groups, including initiatives aimed at young people, such as the ‘light’ disco planned at the Almacén de las Artes.
In the cultural and social sphere, Councillor Jorge González highlighted the variety of activities on the programme, ranging from international cookery workshops to traditional games tournaments and the “Women Worthy of Admiration” awards. He also praised initiatives such as the children’s opening speech and Senior Citizens’ Day, designed to encourage participation across all generations.
Sport also featured prominently on the agenda, with Alejandro Hoz taking the floor to highlight some of the key events on the festival calendar, such as the San José Cycling Grand Prix, the Pedro Echevarría Memorial, and the rowing races on the Astillero estuary – a sport closely linked to the town’s history.
For his part, the Councillor for the Environment, Óscar Osorio, used his appearance to highlight some of the projects currently underway, such as the creation of a new dog park in Guarnizo, next to the Faro Azul, as well as talking about his favourite moments of the festivities.
Furthermore, once the programme had concluded, Astillero Town Council presented the UNEATLANTICO Radio team with a certificate in recognition of their work and their involvement in promoting the San José festivities.

With this special programme, UNEATLANTICO Radio reaffirms its commitment to local news and its role as a voice for the social, cultural and institutional life of Cantabria, bringing the public up to date with the festivities that reflect the identity and vitality of the municipality of Astillero.
