UNEATLANTICO organizes the webinar “Current Challenges and Perspectives on CLIL and Bilingualism in the Digital Citizenship Era”

On September 1st at 5 p.m. (Spain), the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) will organize a webinar on “ Current Challenges and Perspectives on CLIL and Bilingualism in the Digital Citizenship Era ” presented in English by Sandra Camelo, within the framework of the new Master in Bilingual Education offered by UNEATLANTICO.

The event is held in collaboration with the the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de Puerto Rico (International Iberoamerican University, UNIB), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (International Iberoamerican University of Mexico, UNINI Mexico), the Fundación Universitaria Internacional de Colombia (International University Foundation of Colombia, UNINCOL), the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana, UNIROMANA).

Throughout this webinar, we will explore Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and bilingualism in the context of today’s global and digital society. We will address the changing needs of students who are immersed in a world where communicative, intercultural, cognitive, metacognitive, and digital competencies are fundamental to their personal, academic, and professional development. In addition, we will analyze how CLIL can be implemented to promote lifelong learning and digital literacy strategies to develop responsible global citizens capable of adapting to the constant challenges of contemporary society, applying critical thinking skills in more than one language.

Effective, inclusive, and cross-cultural communication, along with responsible collaboration through digital platforms, are essential for knowledge generation in the age of digital citizenship. Bilingual education should actively promote the development of these competencies to facilitate meaningful and enriching intercultural interactions. The digital age brings challenges and opportunities for bilingualism as technology transforms the processes of language acquisition and literacy. Students must develop digital competencies that enable them to understand, analyze, evaluate, and interpret interconnected texts and audiovisual content on multiple platforms. As the digital environment continues to evolve, rethinking CLIL and bilingual education from the perspective of digital citizenship is key to forming critical, empowered global citizens committed to inclusion.

Dr. Sandra Camelo is the academic and teaching coordinator of the Teacher Training in Foreign Languages and the Master in Bilingual Education programs offered by FUNIBER’s educational network through the Universidad Europea del Atlántico and the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (UNINI Mexico).

The conference is free and open to all those interested in the subject and will be streamed live on FUNIBER’s YouTube channel. Check the broadcasting schedules here.
