The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) joins the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated tomorrow, November 25.
This important date, which for years has been commemorated at UNEATLANTICO, is marked in the calendar of the United Nations General Assembly through a resolution that took place in December 1999. According to UN data, an estimated 736 million women have been victims of some type of violence at least once in their lives. This represents almost one third of the global female population.
This International Day marks the beginning of the United Nations’ UNiTE Campaign, which proposes 16 days of activism from November 25 to December 10, which coincides with International Human Rights Day.
It should be noted that violence is not only represented in a physical way. The United Nations General Assembly defines part of violence against women as “any act of violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or psychological harm or suffering to women.”
To commemorate this day, students of the Journalism (PER) and Audiovisual Communication degree (CA) have pooled their ideas to capture in a video that simulates a WhatsApp conversation between two friends.
This initiative, which is part of UNEATLANTICO’s Comisión de Igualdad (Equality Commission) and several female students aims to raise awareness of the need to create egalitarian spaces free of any kind of violence, whether psychological, physical, verbal, or emotional.
From UNEATLANTICO, we affirm that #NOHAYEXCUSA for Violence against Women.
