UNEATLANTICO joins in the celebration of Africa Day

On 25 May, the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) joins in the commemoration of Africa Day, a historic date that marks the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, now known as the African Union (AU). This day not only celebrates the cultural diversity and heritage of the African continent, but also reflects its ongoing struggle for self-determination, unity and sustainable development.

This year, the UN has designated 2025 as the ‘Year of Reparations: Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,’ a theme that seeks to recognise deep historical inequalities and their current effects, as well as to advance global social justice. This approach highlights the importance of addressing past injustices and promoting equity and inclusion for communities of African descent around the world.

At UNEATLANTICO, we value the presence of students from various African countries, which broadens the global vision of the campus. Within the academic community, we are proud to have students from Angola, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Mali and Senegal. Additionally, it is important to highlight the sisterhood with the Universidad Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC).

The relationship between UNEATLANTICO and African countries has been key in the university’s internationalisation process. This collaboration has been reflected in numerous institutional and academic activities that highlight the active participation of these countries in university life. These include the visit of the Angolan ambassador to Spain, Mr. Alfredo Dombe, who was also the patron of the engineering and postgraduate graduation ceremony; the visit of the president of ISPTEC Angola; and lectures given by UNEATLANTICO professors in Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea.

Cooperation agreements have also been signed with institutions such as the UTA in Cape Verde and the International Postgraduate Centre in Equatorial Guinea. In addition, we have been honoured with a visit from former Senegalese minister Mamadou Diop Decroix, which reinforces UNEATLANTICO’s commitment to strengthening academic and cultural ties with the African continent.
