UNEATLANTICO inaugurates the face to face phase of the Master’s Degree in Sports Performance: Training and Functional Assessment

The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) has inaugurated the face-to-face phase of the Master’s Degree in Sports Performance: Training and Functional Assessment for the 2024-2025 academic year, which will take place between 7 and 24 July at the university’s facilities.

The master’s degree, which is officially accredited, offers specialised training in one of the most important areas of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences: sports performance. During these weeks, students will have the opportunity to consolidate their theoretical and practical knowledge through intensive activities alongside leading experts in the national and international sports field.

The opening ceremony was held in the university’s auditorium and was attended by the main teachers responsible for this phase, all of whom are professionals with solid backgrounds in medicine, physiology and sports training:

The inauguration of this face-to-face phase took place in the UNEATLANTICO Auditorium and was attended by leading professionals from the sports and academic fields, who will also be responsible for delivering the sessions scheduled throughout the month. Among them is Dr Nicolás Terrados Cepeda, a renowned specialist in sports medicine, former head doctor of the ONCE Group and one of the most authoritative voices in the field of sports doping. His contribution will provide a key ethical and scientific perspective on health and high performance.

Also part of the teaching team is Dr Antonio Tramullas Juan, a former professional basketball player and renowned sports doctor with extensive experience at the helm of medical services for organisations such as FC Barcelona (both football and basketball), the Euroleague and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. His dual experience as an athlete and doctor will enrich the students’ learning from a comprehensive perspective.

Dr Julio Calleja González, professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and expert in physiology applied to elite sport, joins the faculty with his knowledge of fatigue recovery and training in high-performance sports. As a physical trainer for the Spanish Basketball Federation, his practical experience will be of great value to future professionals.

Alongside them, Dr Álvaro Velarde Sotres, academic director of the master’s degree, and Dr Rubén Calderón Iglesias, rector of UNEATLANTICO, participated in the official opening and highlighted the importance of this stage as an opportunity to consolidate knowledge and enhance fundamental skills for professional practice in the field of sport.

The face-to-face phase of the master’s degree is structured around three fundamental axes: lectures given by international experts, practical sessions and workshops in small groups with personalised advice, and guided visits to professional sports centres. These activities will allow students to apply theoretical content in real contexts, developing skills such as athlete assessment, action analysis, and the planning and execution of training and recovery proposals, all through simulations and practical methodologies.

The sessions include lectures, which encourage the ability to analyse, synthesise and organise; workshops and seminars that use the university’s technical and technological resources; and visits to leading sports clubs to observe professional performance from the inside.

With this practical, accessible and rigorous approach, the European University of the Atlantic reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and the development of highly qualified professionals, prepared to confidently face the current challenges in the field of sports performance.
