On the occasion of the VIII Agri-Food Forum of Cantabria, organised by the Diario Montañés through its supplement Cantabria en la Mesa, leading professionals from the agri-food sector met in the auditorium of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO). During the meeting, they presented their concerns and proposals regarding the industry in rural areas, with the aim of promoting its development and sustainability.
‘Product and consumer: links, trends and markets’. The eighth Cantabria Agri-Food Forum was held under this premise. The event was attended by María Jesús Susinos, Regional Minister for Rural Development, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Cantabria; Rubén Calderón, Rector of the European Atlantic University; and Víctor Yuste, Director General of the Inter-Food Forum, who gave the opening speech entitled ‘New lifestyles, different buyers in a global market’.
The 8th Cantabria Agri-Food Forum was structured into three main sections, moderated by José Luis Pérez, editor-in-chief of El Diario Montañés and coordinator of Cantabria en la Mesa. The first, entitled ‘Success stories: business strategies between tradition and innovation’, featured the participation of Jacobo Alonso, General Manager of AgroCantabria, and Leyre Arce, from the Marketing Department of Grupo Consorcio.
Secondly, in the section entitled ‘From the sea to the table. New consumer trends’, the perspective and knowledge of Rafael Piñeiro Scapachini, Director of External Relations for the fishing sector at Mercadona, was presented.
Finally, the second round table, entitled ‘Marketing and communication in the agri-food sector’, brought together representatives from the Spanish fishing, rural and artisanal cheese-making sectors, who discussed the new trends and needs for the promotion of the sector’s products and organisations.
With the participation of UNEATLANTICO in the VIII Foro Agroalimentario de Cantabria del Diario Montañés, the university highlights its commitment to the agricultural sector. That said, it should be noted that several students from the degrees in Food Science and Technology (CTA), Agricultural and Food Industries Engineering (IIAA), Human Nutrition and Dietetics (HND) and Gastronomy (GASTRO) and Business Administration and Management (ADE), attended the Forum.
