UNEATLANTICO hosts an informative talk about the Armed Forces in Ferrol

The Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) hosted an informative talk on the work of the Armed Forces offered in Ferrol with the aim of making known the educational and employment opportunities they offer, as well as the requirements and different forms of access to this profession in the service of the State.

The presentation was given by the representative of the Spanish Navy in Ferrol and Corporal I, Juan Carlos Seoane López, and seaman Eva Nieto Torrecilla, who explained that they are the Armed Forces, what their functions are and the different possibilities to join them. During the talk it was stressed that this is a profession with a lot of action and public service vocation, since its members are civil servants serving all citizens.

During the speech, the motto of the Navy was recalled: “Defend Spain at and from the sea”, as well as the many tasks carried out by the Armed Forces, including security and deterrence against possible threats, participation in peace-keeping operations, humanitarian aid, environmental protection in the event of disasters and emergencies, the fight against international terrorism and support for scientific and research work.

To join the Armed Forces it is necessary to have access to a dual training centre, where military and civilian subjects are taught. The general requirements include having Spanish nationality or that of one of the 18 countries with a convention, no criminal record, meeting the required level of education and passing the corresponding selective process. There are also entry options with prior qualification, as well as the possibility of studying medicine within the armed forces.

Access may vary according to the career or specialty chosen, with age limits in some cases up to 26 years. The selection process generally includes physical, English, medical, personality tests and an assessment of level of education, which may require vocational training or EBAU marks, depending on the profession.
