UNEATLANTICO gives a theoretical and practical workshop on strength and physical performance to students of IES Muriedas

The European Atlantic University (UNEATLANTICO) held a theoretical and practical session at the university’s facilities, aimed at students of the 2nd year of the Baccalaureate of the Institute of Secondary Education (IES) Muriedas, within the ‘Active and Healthy Lifestyle’ program. The workshop was taught by Fernando Maniega, director of the degree in Physical Activity and Sport (CAFYD), and Ivan González, professor at the university.

During the first part of the workshop, students received a half-hour theoretical introduction on the fundamentals of strength, its classification and its role in improving performance and injury prevention. Then, a practical session was developed in which the students could experiment with a battery of tests of jumping Bosco. For this purpose, they used a jump platform electronically controlled by a Chronopic chip, connected to the Chronojump software, which allows the results to be visualized and analysed in real time.

The students performed the three basic jumps of the Bosco battery:

  • Squat Jump (SJ): measures the amount of force that the subject can generate without the help of previous movement.
  • Countermovement: evaluates the combination of force and explosive power during a dynamic jump.
  • Drop Jump (DJ): analyzes the strength, the explosive manifestation and the reactive or elastic component of the muscle.

It should be noted that IES Muriedas has been working closely with UNEATLANTICO for several years, By participating continuously in this type of activities that allow them to know first hand the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences taught at the university.
