The rector of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic) (UNEATLANTICO), Dr. Rubén Calderón, met with the president of the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) Dr. Santos Gracia Villar, and the president of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, to strengthen the collaboration between the university and the local government for the internationalization of the autonomous community.
The Universidad Europea del Atlántico, the Iberoamerican University Foundationa (FUNIBER) and the Government of Cantabria aim to strengthen their collaboration and boost internationalization policies in the autonomous community. This was agreed on October 5 by the President of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, Dr. Santos Gracia Villar, and Dr. Rubén Calderón during a meeting held at the headquarters of the regional Executive. Buruaga pointed out that “internationalization with a capital” —that is, opening the autonomous community to the world in all senses— is “one of the priorities of the Government in this legislature” and, in this sense, highlighted the “fundamental contribution” of UNEATLANTICO and FUNIBER in achieving this objective, as they expressed during the meeting.
During the meeting, the President of Cantabria emphasized FUNIBER’s “outstanding reputation” in higher education. FUNIBER operates in over 30 countries across Europe, America, Africa, and Asia, offering a diverse educational platform in multiple languages. She also highlighted that since FUNIBER’s establishment in Cantabria in 2014, coinciding with the founding of UNEATLANTICO at the Science and Technology Park, it has played a significant role in placing the local university system at the international stage. As a result, thousands of both Spanish and international students have benefited from studying in Cantabria. For his part, Dr. Santos Gracia emphasized the firm commitment to strengthen the collaboration between the institutions and has fully offered the structure of FUNIBER to the regional Executive in order to attract investors, students, and talent to Cantabria.
