UNEATLANTICO commemorates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO) joins in the commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated today, 11th February, reaffirming its commitment to gender equality and the participation of women in the fields of science and health.

On this day, UNEATLANTICO highlights the fundamental role of women in science and education, recognising inspiring figures within the academic community. Among them, Dr Sandra Sumalla, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, stands out. With more than a decade of experience at UNEATLANTICO, she has been a key reference for students of the degrees in Food Science and Technology (FST), Human Nutrition and Dietetics (NHD), Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CAFYD), Gastronomy (GASTRO) and Agricultural and Food Industry Engineering (IIAA).

About the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

This event was established by the Commission on the Status of Women with the aim of guaranteeing equal access and participation of women and girls in education, research, science and technology. It also seeks to break down stereotypes, promote inspiring role models, support women in the scientific field and encourage measures that promote inclusion, diversity and equality.

Beyond making the achievements of women in science visible, this day also invites reflection on the challenges that still persist in their access to and development within the sector.

UNEATLANTICO’s commitment to gender equality

UNEATLANTICO reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of gender equality and diversity through academic activities, conferences and forums for debate, where not only are advances in this area analysed, but learning and awareness are also promoted.

With these initiatives, the European University of the Atlantic strengthens its commitment to building an academic environment where the talent of all people is recognised and valued, promoting a more inclusive and equitable community.
