UNEATLANTICO attends the Día de la Hispanidad celebrations organised by the Spanish Embassies in Latin America

On the occasion of the celebration of the Día de la Hispanidad, commemorated on 12 October, the various branches of the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER) and the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO) in Latin America took part in the ceremonies organised by the Spanish embassies.

The Día de la Hispanidad commemorates the historical and cultural ties that unite Ibero-America. This event celebrates shared roots and encourages collaboration between the countries of the region to promote development. The date commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America in 1492, an event that marked the beginning of a cultural, social and economic exchange between the Old and New Worlds.

Mexico, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama were among the venues that attended events highlighting the richness and diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. These events were attended by officials, politicians, diplomats and relevant figures, including former presidents, who contributed to enhance the importance of this celebration. FUNIBER was represented in Costa Rica by Claribet Morera Brenes, executive director; in the Dominican Republic by Massiel Castro Germán, executive director; and in Panama by Gregorio Urriola Candanedo, director, together with Marta Escolà, international director.

As part of the celebrations in El Salvador, the musician Gil de Gálvez conducted the Orquesta Sinfónica de El Salvador in an event organised by FUNIBER’s Obra Cultural and the Universidad Europea del Atlántico. The concert was attended by the Spanish ambassador, Sonia Álvarez Cibanal, and the director of FUNIBER in El Salvador, Alejandro Herrera, who highlighted the importance of culture as a bridge between nations.

In this context, FUNIBER and UNEATLANTICO reaffirms its commitment to the multiculturalism that characterises its more than thirty-five campuses in four continents. On this occasion, it celebrates the Hispanicity that unites Spain and America through culture, art and knowledge. In addition, both institutions are consolidating their position as the main university platform dedicated to promoting educational, cultural and scientific-technical cooperation between Latin American nations.
