The Association of Journalists of Cantabria (APC) has awarded the First Best Practices Prize to Dariel Severino, a graduate in Journalism (PER) and student of the double degree in Audiovisual Communication (CA) of the European University of the (UNEATLANTICO), for his performance during the internship at El Diario Montañés.
The jury also awarded a second prize to Maximiliano Pedroza Muñoz, student of the degree in Journalism at our university, for his outstanding work in the practices developed at ARCO FM.
During the competition, the jury evaluated the different works submitted by the participants. In the case of Dariel Severino, the student presented two reports: the first, carried out during the summer, on a route by bicycle from Astillero to Ontaneda, a journey of 38 kilometers that he completed himself. «It was hard, but seeing the end result made it all worthwhile», commented Severino. His second work consisted of an audiovisual and written report on the Santillana del Mar Zoo, in which he addressed the economic challenges facing the institution.
For his part, Maximiliano Pedroza presented a special program broadcast from the Plaza de las Atarazanas on the occasion of the Semana Grande. “It was a great personal achievement for me to not only speak in front of the camera, but also interact with the live audience,” the student said. As a second job, Pedroza presented an interview with the coach of Racing de Santander, José Alberto, experience that he rated as especially significant for his interest in sports journalism. «It was an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and improve in aspects such as mobility, development and effort», he added. Finally, he presented a report of the Hypermotion League’s favorite teams to move up to the first division.
Dariel Severino defined this recognition as a finishing touch to his university career, highlighting that he always kept up with his studies and successfully completed his graduation work. He also recalled with gratitude the opportunity to do his internship in a reference medium such as El Diario Montañés: «I applied without much expectation and when I was confirmed that I had been selected, I did not hesitate to accept».
Both students agreed that the training received at UNEATLANTICO and the support of teachers were fundamental to achieve this achievement, since they provided them with the tools and confidence necessary to excel in the professional field.
Finally, both Dariel Severino and Maximiliano Pedroza dedicated their recognitions to their families and partners, thanking for the constant support provided during their academic career and in the projects developed throughout their practices.
From the European Atlantic University, we express our deep pride and give sincere congratulations to Dariel Severino and Maximiliano Pedroza. Their effort, dedication and demonstrated high standard are a clear reflection of the educational excellence that is driven from our campus.
