Twenty-two teams from various secondary schools and colleges in Cantabria are participating in the ninth edition of the UNEATLANTICO Pre-University Debate League

For the ninth consecutive year, the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) is organising the Pre-University Debate League, a highly significant academic event that brings together young students with the aim of promoting argumentation, critical thinking and oral expression.

This edition will feature the participation of 22 teams from different educational centres in Cantabria. Participants will find out, through a live draw, the position they must defend —for or against— on the topic proposed for debate: ‘Does unrestricted immigration strengthen or weaken the country?’

In recognition of their performance, UNEATLANTICO will award prizes to the members of the winning team, the finalists and the student who is distinguished as the best speaker.

For the third consecutive year, the Debate League serves as a qualifying round for the Spanish Pre-University Debate Championship, organised by the Spanish University Debate League (LEDU). The winning team will have the opportunity to represent Cantabria in the national competition.

Finally, the director of the Debate League and UNEATLANTICO lecturer, Luis Eduardo Prado, stated that ‘the university’s Pre-University Debate League has become a space where schools and colleges in our Community can promote students’ communication skills, contributing to the personal and academic growth of young people in Cantabria.’
