Three-time Goya Award winner Cristóbal García, guest of honour at the 4th UNEATLANTICO Short Film Festival

Cantabrian producer Cristóbal García, from the production company La Terraza Films, will be the guest of honour at the 4th UNEATLANTICO Short Film Festival organised by Helena Garay, head of the university’s Cultural Extension Department.

García, an important figure in the audiovisual industry, is the man behind the successful film ‘Segundo premio’ (Second Prize). This feature film has garnered considerable recognition, including three prestigious Goya Awards and more than a dozen nominations, establishing itself as one of the most outstanding film productions of the year. In addition, its value has been recognised at the national level by being selected by the Spanish Film Academy to represent Spain at the upcoming Oscars, a milestone that underscores the film’s quality and impact on an international level. In recognition of his significant contribution to the world of cinema and his outstanding career in film production, Cristóbal García will receive the Federico Fernández Special Award this afternoon, presented by the European University of the Atlantic.

Prior to the award ceremony, García shared his experience and knowledge with students from the Audiovisual Communication (CA), Journalism (PER) and Advertising and Public Relations (PRP) degree programmes at UNEATLANTICO. In an enriching masterclass held in the university’s auditorium, García delved into his professional career, offering valuable insights into the world of cinema, sharing anecdotes from his projects and offering advice to future communication professionals currently studying at the European University of the Atlantic. This meeting was a unique opportunity for students to learn about the reality of film production from such an important figure in the world of cinema.

The awards for this fourth edition are divided into nine categories that seek to recognise excellence in various areas of filmmaking. These include: best short film, best director, best screenplay, best cinematography, best editing, best sound, best actress, best actor and, as already mentioned, the Federico Fernández Special Award.

All in all, the main objective of the 4th Short Film Festival organised by UNEATLANTICO remains to promote the talent and creativity of its students by providing a platform to showcase their work.
