Dr. Juan Luis Martín, Academic Director of the Psychology degree program (PSI) and of the Master in General Health Psychology, as head of the University Psychology Clinic of the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), together with other members of the university community, have been responsible for launching this space, fulfilling the requirements necessary to obtain health authorization from the Ministry of Health of the Government of Cantabria.
The idea behind this initiative was to promote three key issues in the field of psychology, as Dr. Martín explains, research in health psychology and neuropsychology, carrying out different projects in collaboration with other institutions and, in addition, promoting student internships for both undergraduate and master’s degree students. With this resource, the Universidad Europea del Atlántico continues its upward path in the field of teaching, research, and knowledge transfer to society.
The clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to take all kinds of neurophysiological and neurocognitive records, with the aim of applying them to the improvement of mental health, among other issues. Thanks to the health registration received, the clinic is approved for professional activity within its scope, as it has the authorization of health centers, services, and establishments in Cantabria.
Among the material used in the clinic are:
- Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality glasses.
- Leap motion hand movement sensor.
- Stimulator tDCS / tACS / Rrns.
- Biopac N160 equipped with modules for EDA, pulse plethysmograph, EMG, temperature transducer, and respiration band.
- E-prime 3.0 software
- Computer equipment for virtual reality and analysis of physiological and cognitive variables.
- Near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
- Nexus 10 multimodal system equipped with: EEG, EMG, ECG, EOG, skin conductance, temperature, blood volume pulse, respiration, oximetry, ERP/VEP.
This space will help teachers trained in the use of this technology to use it in the research environment, as well as for other types of applied projects. On the other hand, in the aforementioned internships, especially aimed at students of the Master in General Health Psychology and the Master in Neuropsychology, students will be trained in an environment very similar to the reality of a real clinic, fully equipped with this technology.
